Thai food can be more accurately described as 4 regional cuisines matching to the four main regions of the country: Northeastern (or Isan), Northern, Central and Southern, each cuisine sharing similar foods or derived from those of neighboring countries. For example, Southern curries contain coconut milk and fresh turmeric, while northeastern dishes mostly contain lime juice. Thai food includes typical foods, beverages, and cooking styles common to the country of Thailand. Thai Cuisine is famous for being hot and spicy and its balance of five fundamental flavors in each dish or the overall meal – hot (spicy), sour, sweet, salty and bitter (optional). Thai food is known for its enthusiastic use of fresh (rather than dried) herbs and spices as well as fish sauce.
There are quite a lot Thai restaurants in LA where you will find great Thai dishes in a friendly atmosphere. These are great places to come to relax and enjoy a traditional Thai meal. Their menu items include homemade entrees such as a wide array of noodle dishes, curries, and rice dishes. Some also offer unique specialties like marinated house steak, fresh seafood dishes including Crazy Angel Fish which is a deep fried fillet of sole topped with shitake mushroom and baby-corn with a touch of ginger.

Jitlada Thai Cuisine is located at 5233 ½ W. Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles. They may not be in the safest location on the planet, but they are worth the risk.
Inside you will find attractive décor and elegance. The food is delicious. Seafood seems to be the crowd favorite and you can’t go wrong with traditional. Their Flame Prawns are large and succulent and delightful in red curry. The Squid salad is something I’d never had before and tastes delicious with a citrus and red onion flare. I’d also recommend the Bangkok Duck, it’s to die for.
Jitlada is open Mondays from 5pm to 10:30pm, Tues-Thurs, 11am to 10:30pm and Fridays & Saturdays from 11am to 11pm. You may call ahead with any questions 323-667-9809.

Chadaka Thai is a one of a kind Thai restaurant in Burbank. Not only do they serve up traditional favorites, but they are also offering so much more. They bring out old family favorites that nobody else serves out here in California. They want to introduce you to the wonderful world of authentic Thai.
They never cook with MSG. They don’t think a good chef needs to use it. And they make their fresh curry pastes from scratch daily, they never use premade. Vegetables a fresh too, and you can tell the difference.
I’d start off with one of the small bites, either the Beef Waterfall or the Mee Krob. If you are vegetarian, try the pot stickers. The Green Pear Salad is delicious as well if you are a lettuce eater, but if you like something with a little kick try the Spicy Thai Salad.
For your entrée I suggest the New Zealand Lamb Chop, Garlic Prawns or Lemongrass Chicken. If you love seafood, maybe try the Halibut or the Spicy Catfish Fillet. Of course they serve up the traditional noodle and curry dishes and they even have delicious Snow Crab Fried Rice. Vegans will love their Asparagus and Shitake Mushrooms or the Basil Eggplant. To wash everything down with I’d suggest a beer or one of their specialty martinis.
Chadaka Thai is open Mon-Fri, from 11:30am to 10:30pm, and Sat-Sun, from noon to 10:30pm. This wonderful food is created and prepared by Head Chef Aunty Tim and the amazing service is run by Metha Maneesilisan. Restaurant is located at 310 San Fernando Blvd, in Burbank, 91502. Give them a call at 818-848-8520 or drop them an email at www.chadaka@msn.com. You may also want to visit their beautiful website at www.chadaka.com.

If you are looking for great spicy Thai food, may I suggest an awesome restaurant on Sunset Blvd. The name is easy to remember: Sunset Thai.
They’ve got everything from delicious curry sauces, seafood, spicy combinations and vegetarian delights. For those of you, who can’t do spicy, definitely order the Pad Thai. It is scrumptious. And they also serve delicious zesty Kung Pao Noodles or Spicy Thai Noodles that both deliver the kick you are looking for, if you can handle the heat.
Vegetarians will be pleased as well. Any menu item can be cooked with tofu in place of meat. And they also have a variety of terrific vegetable entrees to choose from.
Sunset Thai is located at 7513 Sunset Blvd, in Hollywood, 90046. You can check out their website at http://www.sunsetthai.com or call them 323-883-1805 for more information and delivery.

If you are interested in trying Thai food in a quaint and friendly place, you should definitely check out Tuk Tuk on Pico Blvd. They have been serving authentic Thai food in So Cal for almost 10 years. Tuk Tuk is special because it is family operated and owned by one of the first Thai families to move into Los Angeles. Now that’s what I call authentic.
The menu is diverse, but there are some old favorites as well. The amazing chefs mix their own curry pastes daily so you know they are fresh and full of flavor. I’d like to recommend the Pad Thai, it’s the best I’ve had in the city. Their special blend of rice noodles with egg, chicken, shrimp and tofu is something to experience.
The seafood dishes are impressive as well. Some standout items are the beef salad, green curry, sate chicken or pork, fresh Thai rolls and their papaya salad with grilled shrimp is a masterpiece. And don’t leave without trying one of their signature drinks like the Soju cocktail.
Tuk Tuk is located at 8875 W Pico Blvd., in Los Angeles, 90035. You may reach them by email at tutukla@sbcglobal.net or visit them online www.tuktukla.com. Contact them for catering, parties or facility rentals; their number is 310-860-1872. Hours are Mon-Fri, 11am to 11pm, and Sat-Sun, Noon to 11pm.

Toi on Sunset rocks. And they have crazy flavorful dishes to match their rad interior. Where else have you heard of eggplant pumpkin tofu as a side dish?
The interior of Toi is amazing, artistic and awesome. The ambience if funky and you can feel the fever when you walk in the door. And of course you may see a star or two; the location is on Sunset Blvd after all. What star wouldn’t love their combination of culinary creativity and rock star atmosphere?
I’d like to recommend starting with the fried wontons, they are sweet and spicy. Next, move onto the Special Thai Spaghetti and I’d suggest having the shrimp instead of chicken. If you are a meat eater, definitely jump into the Pork Ribs, and if you are seafood nut, you must experience the Special Toi on Sunset Mussels in lime juice, super tasty.
Of course they have the traditional Pad Thai, curries and rice dishes. They serve beer, wine and sake for the drinkers and you can finish the night off with green tea or coconut ice cream.
TOI on SUNSET is open 7 days 11am til 4am. Beer, wine and sake is served til Midnight and major credit cards are accepted. Located at 7505 ½ Sunset Blvd., in Los Angeles, they also have a location in Santa Monica. You can reach them on the web at www.toirockinthaifood.com or call them at 323-874-8062.

A hip, trendy Thai restaurant in Venice? What more could you ask for? Everything about this place is great. I had a wonderful server and delicious food. But make sure you are in for a slower evening…it could take a while for your food.
They serve everything family style, which means you share at the table. I liked this aspect of the restaurant because I like to try a little bit of everything and usually end up eating off other people’s plates anyway. I’d suggest making reservations though, it can get crowded.
Natalee Thai is located at 10101 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, 90230 and the Beverly Hills location is at 998 S. Robertson Blvd., in Beverly Hills, 90035. For reservations at the Venice location, call 310-202-7003 or email contact@nataleethai.com. For reservations at the Beverly Hills location call 310-855-9380.
Natalee Thai offers free delivery within the area and several lunch specials and daily specials as well. You can even order takeout online at www.nataleethai.com. Operating hours are Sun-Thurs, 11:30am to 10pm, and Fri-Sat, 11:30am to 10:30pm.

Seriously, you have to go to this restaurant. They have an Elvis impersonator for goodness sake. What are you waiting for?
Besides their awesome entertainment, they also have some great food and the atmosphere is enjoyable and laid back. They offer Lunch specials from 11am to 5pm and are served with steamed white rice and fried wontons. Enjoy the following dishes for under 6 bucks. BBQ Chicken, Stir Fried Special, Dried Chili with cashew, broccoli with gravy sauce, sweet and sour, pepper and garlic or chili with holy basil.
For dinner come and try the fried shrimp appetizer. Salads and soups worth mentioning are spicy fish and coconut soup, and the papaya salad with dried shrimp. And if you are a curry lover, you’ll be more than thrilled, they have every type of curry possible; red, green, yellow and then some.
Seafood is also a treat at Palms Thai. They serve up a tasty deep fried trout with mango sauce or if you’re looking for spicy, try the whole fish with chili/garlic sauce. The menu even offers some “wild things” like Frog with chili and holy basil and Wild boar with curry sauce, you heard me right, they serve Wild Boar here. Not to mention Deep Fried Quail and Beef with Lime and Garlic.
For something sweet I’d definitely recommend ordering their Thai Fried Bananas or their Coconut Flavored Ice Cream. But don’t try and order them on Saturdays, for some reason they don’t serve dessert on Saturdays. Still trying to figure that one out.
Make dinner reservations by calling 323-462-5073; they accept reservations up to 7pm only. Free parking for pick up orders only, valet service is available in the building facility. Palms Thai is located at 5900 Hollywood Blvd, Ste. B in Los Angeles, 90028. Visit them online at www.palmsthai.com or by email at sam@palmsthai.com. Operating hours are Sun-Thur, 11am to midnight and Fri-Sat, 11am to 2am.
