THAI RESTAURANTS AND THAI FOOD IN LA

Thai food can be more accurately described as 4 regional cuisines matching to the four main regions of the country: Northeastern (or Isan), Northern, Central and Southern, each cuisine sharing similar foods or derived from those of neighboring countries. For example, Southern curries contain coconut milk and fresh turmeric, while northeastern dishes mostly contain lime juice. Thai food includes typical foods, beverages, and cooking styles common to the country of Thailand. Thai Cuisine is famous for being hot and spicy and its balance of five fundamental flavors in each dish or the overall meal – hot (spicy), sour, sweet, salty and bitter (optional). Thai food is known for its enthusiastic use of fresh (rather than dried) herbs and spices as well as fish sauce.

There are quite a lot Thai restaurants in LA where you will find great Thai dishes in a friendly atmosphere. These are great places to come to relax and enjoy a traditional Thai meal. Their menu items include homemade entrees such as a wide array of noodle dishes, curries, and rice dishes. Some also offer unique specialties like marinated house steak, fresh seafood dishes including Crazy Angel Fish which is a deep fried fillet of sole topped with shitake mushroom and baby-corn with a touch of ginger.

Palms Thai

Seriously, you have to go to this restaurant. They have an Elvis impersonator for goodness sake. What are you waiting for?

Besides their awesome entertainment, they also have some great food and the atmosphere is enjoyable and laid back. They offer Lunch specials from 11am to 5pm and are served with steamed white rice and fried wontons. Enjoy the following dishes for under 6 bucks. BBQ Chicken, Stir Fried Special, Dried Chili with cashew, broccoli with gravy sauce, sweet and sour, pepper and garlic or chili with holy basil.

For dinner come and try the fried shrimp appetizer. Salads and soups worth mentioning are spicy fish and coconut soup, and the papaya salad with dried shrimp. And if you are a curry lover, you’ll be more than thrilled, they have every type of curry possible; red, green, yellow and then some.

Seafood is also a treat at Palms Thai. They serve up a tasty deep fried trout with mango sauce or if you’re looking for spicy, try the whole fish with chili/garlic sauce. The menu even offers some “wild things” like Frog with chili and holy basil and Wild boar with curry sauce, you heard me right, they serve Wild Boar here. Not to mention Deep Fried Quail and Beef with Lime and Garlic.

For something sweet I’d definitely recommend ordering their Thai Fried Bananas or their Coconut Flavored Ice Cream. But don’t try and order them on Saturdays, for some reason they don’t serve dessert on Saturdays. Still trying to figure that one out.

Make dinner reservations by calling 323-462-5073; they accept reservations up to 7pm only. Free parking for pick up orders only, valet service is available in the building facility. Palms Thai is located at 5900 Hollywood Blvd, Ste. B in Los Angeles, 90028. Visit them online at www.palmsthai.com or by email at sam@palmsthai.com. Operating hours are Sun-Thur, 11am to midnight and Fri-Sat, 11am to 2am.
